Research: Education Trends
I've worked extensively with United States degree conferral data on projects ranging from the evolution of specific fields of study to spatial patterns in the distribution of certain classes of institutions. I am also the author of the first line-level 40-year combined HEGIS/IPEDS dataset for studying longitudinal patterns in post-secondary degree conferral.- First Combined HEGIS/IPEDS Dataset. I created the first line-level 40-year linear degree conferral dataset for American post-secondary education, combing all five taxonomies of the HEGIS and IPEDS universes and for the first time statistically integrating the HEGIS universe at line-level resolution and permitting use alongside IPEDS. Sources like NSF WebCaspar and other widely-used 40-year conferral datasets exist only at the line-group level and have a number of severe limitations or data errors that limit their usefulness for studying broad discipline studies, which led to the creation of this dataset. An interactive website will be released in late 2010 which will allow searching and downloading of this dataset.
